ACS
MISSION STATEMENT
The
American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based voluntary
health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health
problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering
from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
The American Cancer Society consists of
more than two million Americans united to conquer cancer through
balanced programs of research, education, advocacy, and service. The
dollars raised from the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life are
used to provide Hope for the future, Progress toward a cure, and Answers
to cancer questions and concerns.
The American Cancer Society is your
comprehensive information source, around the clock. The Society's
toll-free information line (1-800-ACS-2345) and the Website
www.cancer.org
are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering comprehensive
information about cancer and related services that help cancer patients
and their families make informed decisions about their care.
Relay For Life is a unique community event
that allows individuals from all walks of life to join in the fight
against cancer. Relay is the most successful not-for-profit event in the
country. Since the inception of Relay For Life in 1985, more than
one-half billion dollars have been raised. The event is a celebration of
life for survivors, a memorial for loved ones lost, and a rally for the
community to fight cancer.
